Boudoir
What to Expect at Your First Boudoir Shoot
If you've been thinking about a boudoir shoot for a while but keep talking yourself out of it — "I'm not a model," "I'm not ready," "I wouldn't have a clue what to do" — this one's for you. Nearly every woman I photograph is doing it for the very first time, and feeling exactly the same way you are right now. So here's precisely how a session goes, start to finish, with no surprises.
You don't need to feel "ready" first
The number one thing I hear is some version of "I'll book once I've lost half a stone / sorted my skin / feel more confident in myself." Here's the honest truth, and it's the whole reason I do this: the shoot itself is the confidence boost. You don't need to feel ready beforehand — feeling amazing about yourself is the thing you walk away with, not something you need to bring with you. There's no right size, no right age, and absolutely no experience required.
Before the day
Once you've booked, we'll chat through what you're after — the mood you want, outfits, any ideas or references, and any nerves or questions at all. Nothing is a silly question. A 25% deposit secures your date, and I'll make sure you know exactly what to bring and where to go. The more we plan beforehand, the more relaxed the day itself feels.
When you arrive
Sessions happen in my private, relaxed home studio in Swindon, or on location across the Cotswolds and London — somewhere you feel comfortable. There's no audience, no rush, and usually a cup of tea and a proper chat before we pick up the camera. Settling in is part of the process.
During the shoot — you're guided every step
This is the bit people worry about most, and it's the bit you honestly don't need to think about at all. I direct every pose — where to put your hands, your chin, your weight, how to turn, how to breathe into it. You never have to "know what to do." We start gentle and easy, and as you warm up (everyone does, usually faster than they expect), we build from there. I'll show you shots on the back of the camera as we go, so you can see it working in real time.
How much you show is entirely your call
Boudoir means different things to different people, and your comfort sets the level — always. That can be anything from fully-clothed, fashion-led portraits through to art or implied nude, and everything in between. I'll never push you past where you want to be. We agree the vibe in advance, and you can adjust it on the day.
After the shoot
Here's my favourite promise: you keep every photo. Every unedited image from your session is included — nothing held back. You then choose your favourites, and your professionally finished edits are delivered within 10–14 days. Most people tell me the hardest part was booking; the shoot itself was the fun bit.
Still telling yourself you're not ready?
