What to Wear for a Boudoir or Fitness Shoot
"What on earth do I wear?" is probably the question I get asked most before a shoot. The good news: it's far simpler than you think, and you really can't get it wrong. Here's how to choose outfits that photograph beautifully — whatever your size, style or session.
Bring more than you think you'll need
Always pack options. A few outfits give us variety in your gallery and let us change the mood as the session goes on. You won't wear everything, but having choice on the day means we can lean into whatever's working best once you've warmed up.
Fit beats brand, every time
The single biggest tip: choose pieces that actually fit you now — not the size you're hoping to be, and not something brand new that pinches. Well-fitting clothes and lingerie photograph infinitely better than expensive things that dig in or gape. Comfortable and confident always wins on camera.
Boudoir: textures and simple shapes
- Lingerie sets in colours you love — black and jewel tones are classics, but wear what makes you feel good.
- Bodysuits and high-waisted styles are hugely flattering and a great confidence-builder if you're easing in.
- Textures — lace, silk, mesh, fishnet — read beautifully in studio light.
- An oversized shirt, chunky knit or your partner's jumper makes for gorgeous, softer, more intimate shots.
Fitness: show the work
- Fitted gym wear — matching sets, sports bras, high-waisted leggings or shorts — shows the physique you've worked for.
- Bold or block colours pop against studio backdrops.
- Bring a couple of options so we can vary the look and the coverage.
Accessories and the little details
Heels lengthen the legs and change your posture instantly (even if they never touch the floor in the shot). Simple jewellery, a favourite perfume, and anything that makes you feel like the best version of yourself all help. Skip anything that leaves marks — tight socks, hair bobbles on your wrist, jeans right before a boudoir set.
A quick word on tan and skin
If you like a tan, book a professional spray a day or two before rather than doing it yourself — DIY can go patchy and it's tricky to edit around. Otherwise, keep it simple: hydrated skin and however much or little make-up makes you feel like you.
And if you're still unsure? Don't stress about it. Send me your ideas beforehand and we'll plan it together — that's exactly what the pre-shoot chat is for.
