I'm Not a Model — Is Boudoir Really for Me?

By Glen · September 2026 · 3 min read

If there's one sentence I hear more than any other, it's this: "I'm not really a model, though." Good. Neither are the women I photograph. Boudoir isn't for models — it's for everyday women who deserve to see themselves at their best. If you've talked yourself out of a shoot for this exact reason, read on.

Boudoir is made for "ordinary" people

Teachers, nurses, mums, shift workers, people who haven't been in front of a camera since their last passport photo. That's who books these sessions, and that's exactly who they're designed for. You don't need modelling experience, a particular dress size, a certain age, or a "good side" you've rehearsed. You just need to show up.

"But I wouldn't know what to do"

You're not supposed to — and you don't have to. I direct every single pose. Where your hands go, how to tilt your chin, where to put your weight, how to breathe into it. It's a bit like being walked through a dance, one small step at a time. Within about ten minutes almost everyone forgets they were ever worried about it.

"I don't like how I look in photos"

Most people don't — because most photos of us are unflattering phone snaps taken at arm's length in bad light. A proper shoot is the opposite: flattering lighting, angles chosen to suit you, direction that brings out your best, and editing to finish. It's a completely different thing, and it's genuinely a bit of a revelation the first time you see the results.

The shoot is the confidence — not the reward for it

Here's the mindset shift that matters most. You don't need to feel confident, "ready", or a stone lighter before you book. Feeling amazing about yourself is what you leave with. Waiting until you feel ready is the thing that keeps people waiting for years — and every one of them wishes they'd done it sooner.

Don't just take my word for it

Nearly every review on my site is from someone's very first shoot. They walked in nervous and walked out buzzing. Have a read — you'll spot yourself in more than one of them.

Still think it's "not for someone like you"?

That's exactly who it's for. Let's find a date.
