Lingerie, Implied, or Art Nude? Boudoir Styles Explained
"Boudoir" covers a much wider range than most people realise — and one of the first things worth knowing is that you set the level, always. Here's a plain-English guide to the main styles, so you can picture what you're comfortable with before we even talk.
Fashion & portrait boudoir (fully clothed)
Not all boudoir involves lingerie at all. A beautiful shirt, a blazer over bare shoulders, a favourite dress — flattering, sensual portraits with everything on. A lovely place to start if you're testing the water.
Lingerie
The classic. Your own favourite set or something bought for the occasion — this is about feeling glamorous and confident, not revealing. The lighting and posing do the work, and it's by far the most popular choice.
Implied
"Implied" means you appear nude but nothing is actually on show — a sheet, your own arms, clever posing or a well-placed shadow keep everything covered. It reads as bold and artistic while keeping you completely comfortable. A brilliant middle ground.
Art nude
The most artistic end: the body treated as form, shape and light, tastefully done. It's about elegance and artistry rather than anything explicit. Some clients love it; plenty never go near it — both are completely fine.
Where I draw the line
To be totally clear about scope: I photograph everything up to and including art or implied nude, always tasteful. I don't shoot explicit or adult content. If you're ever unsure whether an idea fits, just ask before booking.
You can change your mind on the day
We'll agree a rough vibe in advance, but nothing is locked in. Lots of people plan to keep it covered, warm up, and decide to be a little bolder — and just as many stay exactly where they started. There's no pressure in either direction. Your comfort is the whole point.
