Maternity Photography in Swindon: When to Book & What to Expect

A bump is only there for a little while — and a maternity shoot is a lovely way to hold onto how this chapter felt, not just how it looked. If you've been wondering whether it's "worth it" or whether you'll feel comfortable, here's everything you need to know.

When's the best time to book?

The sweet spot is usually around 28 to 34 weeks. By then your bump is beautifully round and unmistakable, but you're generally still comfortable enough to move, sit and stand for a relaxed session. If you're expecting twins or know you tend to get uncomfortable earlier, we'll nudge it a little sooner — just mention it when you get in touch. My advice: book the date in advance even if it feels early, so your preferred slot is there when you reach that window.

Where we shoot

Maternity sessions work beautifully in my private, relaxed home studio in Swindon, where the light and warmth are easy to control — or out on location across the Cotswolds if you'd love a natural, outdoor feel. Your comfort leads the decision, and we can talk through which suits the look you're picturing.

What to wear

• Fitted pieces that hug and show the bump — a bodycon dress, a bralette and skirt, or simple underwear all photograph wonderfully.
• Flowing fabrics — a long dress, a draped wrap or even a length of fabric — for softer, more artistic shots.
• Something meaningful — your partner's shirt, or an outfit for baby to feature.
• Bring a couple of options and we'll choose together on the day.

It's fully guided — you don't need to pose

Just like every session I shoot, maternity is directed step by step. I'll guide every position and adapt everything around your comfort — plenty of seated and supported poses, breaks whenever you need them, no rush at all. You never have to know what to do; that's my job. Partners and older siblings are very welcome to join for part of it too.

What you get
